Advancing Climate Innovation with SummarAIser for Knowledge Management
In the face of an accelerating climate crisis, the ability to harness and share research effectively is critical to fostering impactful solutions. AIT Austrian Institute of Technology has developed an innovative service called SummarAIser, an advanced knowledge management tool designed to streamline access to climate research projects. Developed within the context of the MAIA project which aims to maximize the impact of climate change research by connecting people, platforms, and knowledge. SummarAIser is an advanced AI-integrated “search and matching” application designed for knowledge management. It works on a fixed database, which employees pre-processed and structured climate dataset from CORDIS. It uses Marqo, a vector database, which play an important role in this use case by enabling a fast and highly precise similarity matching and search process. Llama-Index is used to connect the context with LLM of user choice for RAG. But in this case the data will be top 3 project results from the Marqo database. The MAIA Project: Bridging Gaps in Climate Research
The MAIA project’s mission is to bring together unconnected information, data, and innovations, making them more accessible, shareable, and usable. By fostering collaboration across disciplines and regions, MAIA empowers stakeholders to take meaningful climate action. SummarAIser is a critical part of this mission, serving as a discovery widget for the climate research marketplace. MAIA project website link: https://maia-project.eu/How to Use SummarAIser

- Select User Background: Choose your background from predefined options such as scientist, student, or urban planner. If your background is not listed, select 'Other' and specify it manually. This allows the AI to tailor its responses to your context.
- Input Your Query: Enter your research-related question or query in the designated field.
- Choose an AI Model: Select your preferred AI model from the available options to customize how the system interprets your query.
- Refine Search with Keywords: Specify relevant keywords to focus your search and improve the precision of results.
- Receive Summarized Answers: Get a concise summary from up to three of the most relevant projects matching your query.
- Access Project Details: Alongside the summarized answers, view detailed information about each matched project for deeper insights.
Empowering Climate Action
By using SummarAIser, researchers, policymakers, and innovators can quickly access critical climate research, reducing the time needed to identify relevant projects and fostering faster implementation of climate solutions. SummarAIser not only enhances information accessibility but also supports knowledge sharing and innovation across the global climate research community. Why SummarAIser Matters
- Accelerated Innovation: Rapid discovery of relevant research empowers faster solution development.
- Enhanced Collaboration: Improved access to diverse climate projects fosters cross-sector partnerships.
- Data-Driven Insights: Comprehensive project information aids in informed decision-making for climate mitigation and adaptation.
Looking Ahead
Currently, SummarAIser version 1.0 utilizes approximately 1,064 climate-related project objectives from CORDIS to deliver insightful research summaries. Development is underway for version 2.0, which will expand the database to include the same 1,064 projects along with nearly 11,105 deliverables. This enhancement will provide the AI with a richer context, enabling even more accurate and comprehensive answers to user queries. As climate challenges grow increasingly complex, the need for innovative knowledge management solutions becomes paramount. SummarAIser exemplifies how technology and collaboration can break down silos, enabling researchers and decision-makers to unlock the full potential of climate research. For those seeking to drive impactful climate action, SummarAIser offers a new frontier in research discovery—an intelligent, efficient, and user-focused solution developed to empower climate innovators across the globe.
